WHAT WE STAND FOR
Journeys beyond tourism
01
Two cities, deeply
We deliberately do not sell the whole Kingdom. Depth in Madinah and Makkah is what we are here for.
02
Learning at the heart
Arabic, the Seerah, the circles of the Haramain — knowledge runs through every journey rather than sitting beside it.
03
Honest about access
Makkah is for Muslims and the Madinah precinct is restricted. We say so plainly and never work around it.
Rihlah exists for travellers who want more than a photo stop. We design private journeys through Saudi Arabia that place understanding at the centre — of the faith, the history, the language and the people.
Whether your journey is spiritual, cultural, or both, it is led by guides who can teach, kept small and unhurried, and made welcoming to Muslim and non-Muslim travellers alike.
What we stand for
Guides who teach
Led by people who know the history, language and faith.
Private & unhurried
Small groups and families, at your own pace.
Learning woven in
You leave knowing more than when you arrived.
Respectful to all
Clear, honest and welcoming to everyone.
Journeys beyond tourism
Rihlah exists for a simple reason: Saudi Arabia deserves to be understood, not just seen. As the Kingdom has opened to the world, it has become possible to travel to places that were closed to most visitors for generations — and yet most journeys still treat it as a checklist of sights. Rihlah was founded to offer something deeper: travel that teaches, guided by people who can open up the history, the faith and the culture of the land, so that you return knowing more than when you left.
What Rihlah means
The word rihlah means a journey — and, in the Islamic tradition, the journey undertaken in the pursuit of knowledge. That is exactly the spirit of what we do. Every Rihlah journey is built around understanding: the meaning behind the rites, the history behind the sites, the language behind the words, and the culture behind the customs. “Beyond tourism” is not a slogan but the whole point.
Two paths, one philosophy
We welcome two kinds of traveller. Madinah is open to everyone, Muslim and non-Muslim alike — its history, its hills, its markets and its hospitality, with only the sacred precinct set apart. Makkah is for Muslim travellers, centred on Umrah, Hajj and study in the Haram. The two paths differ in who can walk them, but they share the same conviction: that a journey understood is worth far more than a journey merely taken.
Learning at the heart
What ties everything together is learning. Whether through the Arabic language, the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ, the long history of the region, or the living culture of the country, knowledge runs through every journey we design. Sometimes it takes the form of dedicated study; more often it is simply woven into the days by guides who teach as they go. Either way, the aim is the same: understanding that lasts.
Done properly, and with respect
Travel to Saudi Arabia carries real responsibilities, and we take them seriously. Umrah and Hajj are closely regulated, so we work in partnership with operators licensed by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, through the official Nusuk platform, to ensure everything is arranged correctly. We are equally careful about respect: the sacred is treated as sacred, access rules are honoured, and other faiths and cultures are approached with courtesy rather than judgement.
How we travel
Our journeys are private, small and unhurried. We do not believe understanding can be rushed, nor that one itinerary fits everyone. Instead, each journey is shaped around the traveller — their pace, their questions, their interests, and whether they come alone, as a couple, or as a family. The result is travel that feels personal, considered, and genuinely yours.
What we value
Depth over box-ticking. Understanding over spectacle. Respect for the faith, the land and its people. Honesty about what a journey involves. And hospitality that reflects the very culture we introduce. These are the values that shape every decision we make, from how we plan a route to how we explain a site.
Who we are for
Rihlah is for the traveller who wants more than photographs — the pilgrim who wants their Umrah understood as well as performed, the curious visitor who wants to grasp what they are seeing, the student who wants to learn in the place where it all began, and the family who wants their children to come home having learned something real. If that is the kind of journey you are looking for, you are in the right place.
Begin your journey
Every Rihlah journey begins with a conversation. Tell us who you are, how you would like to travel, and what you hope to understand, and we will build a journey around you. When you are ready, plan your journey — and let us show you a Saudi Arabia beyond tourism.
Why we exist
Rihlah grew out of a simple observation: that a country as significant as Saudi Arabia was being travelled without being understood. The sites were being seen, but their meaning — the history, the faith, the culture behind them — was too often left unexplained. We set out to close that gap, and to make understanding the point of the journey rather than an afterthought.
Our promise
We promise honesty about what a journey involves, care in how it is arranged, and depth in how it is guided. We would rather help you plan something that genuinely fits than sell you a package that does not, and we would rather you return having understood a few things well than having glimpsed many in passing. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
How to begin with us
Starting is easy and carries no obligation. Tell us a little about yourself and the journey you imagine, and we will begin a conversation — suggesting ideas, answering questions, and shaping a journey around you. Whether you are drawn to the journey to Makkah and Madinah, the Madinah journeys, or the learning that runs through both, the first step is simply to plan your journey.
A conversation, whenever you are ready
There is never any pressure and never any obligation. Whether you are ready to travel soon or simply beginning to dream about a journey to Saudi Arabia, we are glad to talk, to answer questions, and to help you picture what a Rihlah journey might look like for you. When the time feels right, reach out and plan your journey — and we will take it from there, at your pace.
